Students in a classroom settingThe Education curriculum is designed to provide the first two years听of the state-prescribed professional education courses and听related general education courses that will lead to the bachelor鈥檚听degree with state certification for teaching.

The curriculum consists of general requirements plus courses from your area of emphasis. You are encouraged to听consult your advisor to identify your area of emphasis, as well as,听specific requirements of your transfer school.

Education Apprenticeship Opportunities

2024 is bringing a lot of excitement and opportunities for education in the State of Kansas, and Barton is excited to be a part of these opportunities, including the Kansas Board of Regent鈥檚 Systemwide Elementary Education (PK-6) Transfer Associate Degree听and Kansas Department of Education鈥檚 Registered Teaching Apprenticeship Model. Kansas Board of Regent鈥檚 Systemwide Elementary Education (PK-6) Transfer Associate Degree:听 This agreement means that all students who receive an associate of science or an associate of arts degree with an emphasis in elementary education at Barton can seamlessly transfer all credits to the Regent Universities in Kansas and will be on-track to begin their junior year of studies in their education program. Additionally, we offer classes both online and in-person for the full term and in 8-week sessions to support traditional and working college students.

Kansas Department of Education鈥檚 Registered Teaching Apprenticeship Model: This model offers a comprehensive approach to teacher training by combining on-the-job learning, related technical instruction, mentorship, and a structured wage scale (ksde.org). This is an amazing opportunity to local districts to grow educators within their community. Barton has been approved as an Education Preparation Program for students in their first 60 credit hours before transferring to complete at a university. This program is for elementary and some secondary programs. KSDE is compiling a guidebook to provide detailed information for school administrators and students. Elementary Education

The Elementary Education curriculum prepares to to teach in elementary, middle and junior high school.

Secondary Education

The Secondary Education curriculum prepares you to teach at听the junior and high school levels.听 We do have degree plans for Education emphasis in Art, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education and many of the sciences.听 You can find that information on their respective pages.

Special Education

The Special Education curriculum prepares you to teach students听with mild/moderate mental or physical disabilities. Students听interested in licensure in Special Education should first explore听the requirements for obtaining a teaching license in Elementary听or Secondary Education. Special Education in many four-year听institutions is a minor program leading to a special education听endorsement to the regular teaching license. Coursework in听Special Education is usually completed during the junior or senior听year of a four-year bachelor's degree education program.

Students Preparing to Transfer

ISB电子's听Education听curriculum is designed to provide the general education requirement and core听Education听courses for students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a bachelor's degree in Education听or a related field. We offer courses that prepare you for admittance in the school of education at your chosen university. You can complete your required field experience while at Barton. Electives must meet the requirements of your transferring institution. You should have a 2.7 GPA and a minimum of 50 college credit hours upon entering the teacher education program at a four-year institution. You may be required to take the Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) or another entrance examination. These requirements are necessary for you to be formally admitted to most teacher education programs. Students should coordinate with their advisor for transfer requirements.
